Danielle & Dan's Wedding Invitation

Hand-made rustic letterpress wedding invitations. HOW International Design Merit Award 2012 winner.

Our rustic wedding on a small private island was a unique experience for our guests. It was this sense of adventure and celebration that we wished to convey with our earthy, handmade invitations.

As part of our wedding ceremony, my husband gave me a special eagle feather, and I wanted to incorporate this symbol in our invitation suite. I also took inspiration from the long path through the woods that leads to my family’s cottage on the island.

Using black ink on a stone-colored 100% cotton paper, we printed the invitations ourselves on a Vandercook press at a local letterpress studio, Atelier Domino. I also trimmed and assembled all the invitations myself.

This wedding invitation is a Merit Award winner for the HOW International Design awards and will be published in the March 2013 issue of HOW Design Magazine.

I used yellow and white baker's twine to tie the invitation suite together.
Thanks to the thick cotton paper and letterpress printing method, the tree illustration that frames the invitation feels like real bark.
Inspiration for the invitations: the long path through the woods that leads to my family’s cottage on the island.
